After years of having no television at university, it does feel lovely to have one now that I have moved back into my family home in London. It is amazing how out of the loop one can become if they have no access to a television. Current affairs completely passed me by for 5 consecutive years. Whenever I returned home for holidays, my mother would express her amazement at how little I knew was going on in the world! Read more »Dr. Dan Legoff has invented Lego Therapy, using Lego to help children with autism to become engaged in particular tasks and with other children. Dr. Legoff noted that none of the children liked any of the toys in his office except for lego. He noticed that often children would arrive at their appointments bearing Lego creations they had made whilst at home. Dr. Legoff also noted that children would start talking to each other about Lego whilst waiting for appointments in the waiting room, even the most shy of children.

Rural peasants were easily persuaded of propaganda tales concerning perverted religion, corrupted women, and secret societies. To play on the fears of the lower classes, the Spanish conservatives and royalists would often employ witchcraft accusations. Goya understood the Inquisition as a deliberate retreat into medievalism and railed against such a reactionary move in both his art and his public life.

Read more »On May 7th 2000 Vladimir Putin became president of Russia and he appointed Minister of Finance Mikhail Kasyanov as his Prime Minister. In that same month, Putin issued a decree which divided the 89 federal subjects of Russia between 7 federal districts, each overseen by a representative of himself in order to smooth federal administration. Putin gained the right to dismiss heads of federal subjects in a law proposed by himself in July 2000 and approved by the Russian parliament in that month.
